Walker Backyard

General Conceptual Layouts illustrating hardscape and materials

Layout 1:

Linear with Trellis

Layout 1 is a linear design creating a room approach to the backyard. The exit door walks out onto a wooden porch landing with stairs that run perpendicular to the house. This stair design allows for a bench or drop zone for shoes, clothing, or other items entering/exiting the home.

A large concrete or paver pad works with the grade providing enough room for a living room style seating area and an outdoor dining table. The grade is adjusted at the end with a small wall and built in grill.

The box out is framed by a large overhead trellis/pergola covering a built-in place firepit. The ground surface is a fine crushed gravel or pea gravel.

A small artificial turf area is provided to finish out a create a clean, low maintenance backyard space.

Layout 2:

Simple rounded pad

Layout 2 is a clean simple layout utilizing the lowest amount of hardscape material. The exit door lands on a small wooden deck with stairs parallel to the house. Porch will need to extend past the window in the house.

The main pad space runs from the box out to the edge of house with the grade of the yard. The pad is terminated at the end by a small wall with built in grill.

The circular portion of the pad works as a location for a free standing fire pit with seating surrounding it.

Layout 3:

Organic shape with artificial grass

Layout 3 is an organic design creating  four interconnected spaces in the backyard. The exit door walks out onto a wooden porch landing with stairs that run perpendicular to the house. This stair design allows for a bench or drop zone for shoes, clothing, or other items entering/exiting the home.

The main pad could be concrete or pavers and curls from the box out to the edge of the home. The pad transitions with the grade and is terminated with a curving seat wall for free standing fire pit surrounded by chairs.

The box out includes a half trellis the provides additional shade and a vertical element over dining table. The corner of the yard includes an artificial turf area. To transition these areas a small landscape area was added that would provide a location for a temporary/removable projection screen for movies.

Layout 4:

Simple rectangle with step down

Layout 4 provides a rectangular pad that runs the length of the house that is accessed from brick/concrete steps running parallel to the rear of the house.

The main pad could be concrete or pavers and it steps down with the grade to create a square seating area. A built in place fire pit is surrounded by a living room set. The main pad is a step up and provides space for a dining table outside the box

Layout 5:

Floating deck with surround steps
